A serious bit of kit
This 16” cordless chainsaw by EGO is just what I was looking for, and I’m seriously impressed. I was looking for a chainsaw that I could use to trim down 4x4 fence posts, and chop up limbs and small trunks for fire wood, and this saw did everything I needed, the 40cc equivalent motor cut through hickory like a hot knife through butter. The saw has a nice feel, solid and well made. It’s got great features, like an easy chain tightening dial, and the chain oil reservoir has 2 lines max and min, but they are oriented so min is how you would use the saw and max how you’d fill it… I love little things like that that show careful design. The 2.5ah battery clicks in securely (no mistaking if its in properly) and doesn’t come off without a deliberate press of the release. When fitted the saw has perfect balance over the left hand grip, making it comfortable and easy to use over extended periods. It’s also light enough to be easily used, raised at head high. As far as battery life goes, I haven’t managed to run it flat even though each time I’ve used it I did a ton of cuts. I’m no professional, but I was seriously impressed at the battery life, especially for such a powerful tool! And with the amazingly fast charger fully charging a battery in about 50 minutes, you’d be able to juggle 2 batteries for continuous use. The battery life indicator is a nice touch, easy to quickly look at, and I appreciate the multiple level lights making it much more accurate and useful than most indicators. The battery feels particularly solid and has some hard rubber (I think) padding on parts, again you can see some good thought has been put into it and how it’s going to be used. The charging unit is quite large, but that is a necessity for the large size of the battery and the fans that keep it cool while charging. You can hear it’s fans working when it’s charging, but it’s not intrusive or loud. The charger has a couple indicator lights for the state of charging, and a feature I really like is the ability to attach the unit to the wall. I really appreciate the excellent instruction manuals that have loads of information including safety/technique information, also all products have long standard warranties. I am really impressed by the quality and design, and I highly recommend this chainsaw, battery and charger by EGO.

Lightest weight battery they have
I just used my brand new 26’ EGO hedge trimmer for the first time with the 2.5 battery. The bigger batteries are going to be a bit heavier while trying to maneuver this trimmer, so the 2.5 feels fine. I trimmed 2 pretty large shrubs and 3 smaller ones. I still had 3/5 bars of battery left when I was done. The large bush in the photo, I actually trimmed another that was identical, so count 2 of those, plus the 3 smaller bushes. I don’t know why people are bashing the battery life on these. It worked great for me. If I take on anymore jobs, I will just use a 2nd 2.5 for backup, instead of using my bigger and heavier batteries.

Great when used with power head and attachments
This battery is good for what its designed for. If you have to use a blower for extensive time I would recommend a 4 amp hour or 5 amp hour battery instead. But when you use this battery with a hedge trimmer or pole saw it lasts quite a while. I have a Tree trimming and hedge trimming business here in Florida and I was able to do all of the customers hedges, and bushes front and back with the hedge attachment then switch over to the pole saw and finished up trimming the small oak tree in the front. After that I was able to use the blower for about half of the cleanup then had to switch to a second 2.5amp hour battery. Ive noticed the blowers use up battery much faster.

Tough, long lasting battery!
I have used Ego Power+ 2.5 amp hour battery a couple of times now with my chainsaw and it is well made and lasts quite a while between charges. The 2.5amp hour capacity has been more than enough to allow me to take down and cut up a sizeable crepe myrtle as well as cut up and old picnic table for disposal. Both projects took quite a bit of cutting and I was still left with one bar on the crepe myrtle and two bars from the table. I did drop the battery from maybe waist height a couple times on concrete by accident with zero damage, probably due to the rubberized protective bumpers (the black areas). Lastly I love the large size of the power gauge, it very clearly shows remaining capacity. All in all a great battery by EGO for their cordless products!

Battery needs to last longer on some tools
The Ego 56 volt 2.5 Ah battery is a very powerful. But the only thing I did not like is that it only lasted 15 minutes on my chainsaw and it took 1 hour to charge up. But for other tools the charge might last longer. The thing I did like that it had a LED that showed you how much charge is left. Next time I would get the 5 Ah battery instead.

Just bought the combo package in the last 3 weeks, so this is basically an initial quality and use review. But, having said that, wish I would have done it sooner. Both tools are so convenient with the battery as opposed to gas, just one 2.5 ah battery only uses half a charge on my 13k sq ft yard. That's edging sidewalks, driveways, fence and flower beds. Actually it only uses one out of five bars for that. They blower uses a bit more as I use it in turbo quite a bit, but both total half a charge. The blower, super strong.
